The answer the media is. The Indian media ought to stop broadcasting news and make thriller movies instead. Their coverage of this pandemic is nothing short of it. The dramatization and sensationalism of the disease was absolutely uncalled for.
The Swine Flu is just like any other flu and only 1% who get it die. The likelihood of you dying on Indian roads is probably higher. The media hype has driven people so crazy that hundreds of people can be seen on the streets with face-masks on. India is the only country after mexico where schools and colleges have shut down on account of the flu.
Bigger problems are in the country's face, which the media seems to ignore. Hundreds are dying of cerebral malaria in Munger, Bihar but the media knows well that they wouldnt gain TRPs if they covered that. So choose a disease affecting the rich urbanites after all we cater to them dont we. So we have the entire country in a scare about Swine Flu and no one cares about the poor in Bihar. The drought is another which is a bigger threat to the nation, but is still dying for adequate media space.
Hope the Indian media learns to play a more responsible role for Indian society rather than remain as just another money maling industry.
